Driving directions (if you like 'em simple, just follow the bold type):
From the East (I-40 West)
When nearing Asheville, look for signs for 240, and take the 240 exit (#53B).
After about 4 miles on 240, look for the Merrimon Avenue exit (#5A)- take it.
On the exit ramp, get in the right lane, but go straight through the light at the end of the ramp onto Marcellus.
Follow around slight curve to stop sign, then left on Bordeau Place.
Take first right on Broadway.
Follow Broadway a little more than ½ mile (going through one light).
After you pass a Citgo gas station on your left, take the next right on North Street.
Three quarters of the way up the hill, #49 will be on your left, a white house with a stone foundation, a fenced-in front yard and a porch.
If you hit a T-intersection, you've gone too far.
From the South or West (these work for I-40 East or 1-26 West)
When nearing Asheville, look for signs for 240 (east)—get onto it.
After a couple miles on 240, you'll want to get into the left-most lane.
At the end of a bridge, take exit 4A for 19-23 north (LEFT EXIT). The exit sign may also say I-26 &/or UNC-Asheville.
Follow this road for just over a mile, then take the UNC-Asheville exit (#25?)
Take a right at the end of the ramp.
Follow this road (Broadway) straight through two lights.
You'll pass Catawba Street on the right; take the immediate next left onto North Street.
Three quarters of the way up the hill, #49 will be on your left, a white house with a stone foundation, a fenced-in front yard and a porch.
If you hit a T-intersection, you've gone too far.
From the North (starting from I-81 in Tennessee; the stretch between there and here can be confusing)
You want to get off 81 and head south via Johnson City to Asheville. Sounds easy enough, but they've been building new sections of road, renaming roads and only partially updating the signs. Our 2004 Rand McNally atlas is outdated, and MapQuest may mislead you. The southbound road to take used to be called 181 south, but I think now it's labeled as 26 East and/or 23 South. In any case, I reckon the exit off 81 is #57—it should say to Johnson City. (Don't take the exit (#60?) for rte. 36 into Johnson City.)
You'll stay on 23 South/26 East for at least an hour. In some points, the signs may call it "Future 26" or 19 South, but it's the same road. Enjoy the views.
Look for signs for a UNC-Asheville exit. I think it's exit 25 - take it.
Take a left at the end of the ramp.
From downtown Asheville;walking/biking directions
Starting on N. Lexington Ave, head north (toward the I-240 overpass).
Just after the overpass, Lexington becomes Broadway.
Stay on Broadway about ¾ mile.
After you pass the Citgo station, take a right on North St.
Three quarters of the way up the hill, #49 will be on your left, a white house with a stone foundation, a fenced-in front yard and a porch.
If you hit a T-intersection, you've gone too far.

I guess one might expect that I'd include a map here. It's on the to-do list.
